Your outfits don't need to be Pinterest perfect to looking amazing

Figuring out what to wear for your couples photos can feel so stressful. But the truth is, they don't need to be perfect, they just need to reflect who you are as a couple, while still photographing beautifully.

To make it easy, here are my tried-and-true do’s and don’ts of what to wear for your couples photo session.

Do: Coordinate, Don’t Match

You don’t need to show up in identical white shirts and jeans (we left that in the 90s, thank you very much). Instead, choose outfits that coordinate.

Think complementary colors, textures, and styles. For example:

Soft neutrals paired with a pop of earth tones
A flowy dress for her, casual button-down and chinos for him
Layers like jackets, cardigans, or scarves to tie looks together

It should look effortless, like you belong together, but not like you’re in a uniform.

Don’t: Wear Distracting Logos or Neon Colors

Big logos, graphic tees, or super bright neon shades can steal the show in photos and not in a good way.

Neons can reflect weird colors onto your skin, and logos date your photos. Stick with solid colors, subtle patterns, or textures instead. That way, you stay the focus, not your clothes.

Do: Choose Outfits That Feel Comfortable

If you can’t sit, spin, or walk comfortably in your outfit, you won’t be relaxed and that will show in your photos.

Wear clothes you feel confident in, but that also allow you to move and play a little (because I promise, I’ll have you doing more than just standing still).

Pro Tip: Break in those new shoes before the session. Blisters don’t photograph well. ��

Don’t: Forget About the Weather & Location

Arkansas summers are hot, and fall evenings can get chilly fast. Dress with the season in mind!

Summer: light fabrics, flowy dresses, short sleeves
Fall: cozy sweaters, layers, boots
Winter: chic coats, scarves, and neutral knits
Spring: fresh pastels, light layers, airy dresses

Also consider the location; stilettos probably aren’t the move if we’re hiking to a mountaintop.

Do: Add a Little Variety

If your session allows for an outfit change, go for it! A dressier look + a casual look gives you variety in your gallery.

Even without a full change, you can bring variety by layering: jackets, hats, jewelry, or scarves that you can take on and off throughout the session.

Don’t: Stress Too Much

This one might be the most important. At the end of the day, your outfits should feel like you.

If you’re comfortable and confident, that energy shines through and makes your photos look incredible, no matter what you’re wearing.

Wear What Feels Like You

When in doubt, think timeless, comfortable, and coordinated. Trust me, the best accessory you can bring to your couples photo session is the way you look at each other. (Cheesy but true.)

Anniversaries are meant for celebrating the big stuff and the everyday magic that keeps your love story going strong! ��

You just wrapped up your session. We laughed, you twirled, maybe we chased some golden light, and now you’re counting down the days until your gallery hits your inbox. But once you have those images… then what?

I’m Back! Why I Took a Break and What I’m Excited to Photograph in 2026

It’s been a little quiet around here, hasn’t it? You might’ve wondered where I disappeared to. The short answer? Life got beautifully busy.

Back in October, we welcomed our sweet baby girl into the world, and let me tell you, she has completely stolen the show. The past few months have been full of baby snuggles, very little sleep, and the kind of joy that rearranges your whole heart. She’s already rolling over, perfecting her pterodactyl screeches, “chatting” with us nonstop, and laughing at our dog, Kane, like he’s the funniest thing on earth.

And honestly? These months reminded me exactly why I do what I do.

The days move fast. Faster than you think they will. One minute you’re rocking a tiny newborn, and the next you’re watching her discover the world. Photographs are the pause button. They let us step back into the moments that felt small at the time but turn out to be everything.

After taking most of 2025 off (aside from one beautiful summer wedding) and soaking in maternity leave, I’m officially opening my 2026 calendar for couples here in Northwest Arkansas, and I could not be more excited.

Let’s be real: your pet isn’t “just a pet.”

They’re basically your furry child, your best buddy, and sometimes the glue that holds the two of you together when life gets crazy. ��

So of course, when it comes to celebrating your love story with photos, you might be thinking… “Can we bring our dog?

The answer: YES. 100% yes. (I might even squeal a little when you ask.)

But I also know that adding a four-legged family member to your session can feel a little overwhelming. Don’t worry, with a little planning, you can totally include your pet without the chaos. Here’s how:

Tip #1: Bring a Helping Hand

Unless your dog is basically a furry supermodel, chances are they’ll only last part of the session. Ask a friend or family member to come along, they can help handle your pup before and after their cameo so you two can relax and get some “just us” shots too.

Tip #2: Pack the Essentials

Treats. Water. Waste bags. A favorite toy. Maybe even a stylish leash or bandana that matches your outfits. These little things go a long way in keeping your pet happy (and keeping your photos stress-free).

Whoever said photo shoots have to be stiff, awkward, or full of "cheesy prom poses" clearly hasn't hung out with me! �� Here's the truth: your couples session isn't just about the photos (though, trust me, they'll be gorgeous). It's about creating a memory together, one that feels just as fun and cozy as your favorite date night.

So, if you're ready to skip the stiff smiles and actually enjoy your session, here are five ways to make your photo shoot feel like the best date ever!

1). Pick a Location That Means Something to You

Sure, I know of dreamy fields, hidden trails, and urban corners in Northwest Arkansas (and I'm always down to suggest a few favorites). But if you want your photos to feel so you, think about spots that hold meaning.

Where you had your first date.
A trail you've conquered together.
That downtown spot where you love to stroll.

When you're in a place you love, you'll naturally feel more relaxed and connected, and that shows in every photo!

5 Questions to Ask Your Wedding Photographer Before Booking

Planning your wedding can be stressful and booking your photographer can be a stressful task. To ensure your getting a photographer that matches your style and budget, here is a list of questions you should ask any photographer you are reaching out to about your big day!

What is your photography style, and can I see a full gallery of your work?

Knowing the photographer’s style can help make sure it aligns with your vision. Do you like dark/moody or bright/airy? Do you want a more photojournalistic or fine art approach? Knowing what style you like can help you determine which photographer will be able to help you achieve the look you’re shooting for. Asking to see a full gallery can give you an idea of what yours could look like, but it can also reveal consistency and quality in different lighting and settings.

What is included in your wedding photography packages?

Every photographer is different in what’s included in their packages. Be sure to ask when your searching for your photographer. Ask about hours of cover and whether it’s continuous or can be broken up, whether an additional photographer or engagement session is included, how you’ll receive your photos whether via digital download, flash drive, album, prints, or a mix of all.

Have your worked at our venue or a similar one before?

Having a photographer that has completed a shoot at your venue can be an added bonus. They may already know the best photo opportunities, how the lighting is, the best angles, etc. However, if a photographer you’re considering hasn’t been at your venue before, it doesn’t have to be a deal breaker. Your photographer may scout the venue beforehand or arrive a little early to look around.

What happens if you can’t make it on our wedding day?

This is a nerve-wracking topic and one that I’m sure is on your mind. Life happens, and it’s important to know what your photographers backup plan is whether it’s a trusted associate shooter that will fill in, refund policy, etc.

How long will it take to receive our photos, and how will they be delivered?

Get clarity on turnaround time and how the images will be delivered. Is it via an online gallery, USB, or printed formats. If your photos are delivered via online gallery, be sure to ask how long the gallery will remain accessible.

Weather & Photography

Have you ever scheduled your photo session and thought; “What if the weather is bad that day”. Well have no fear, if the weather is bad the day of your session, we will reschedule for another time. However if it’s an overcast day (cloudy day, sun hiding behind the clouds), this is actually a perfect day to do a photoshoot. Why? Lighting. On an overcast/cloudy day, you don’t have to fight the sun has much!

Overcast days are perfect for many reason, but here are the top reasons:

Softer shadows, even in the early afternoon
Though still not recommended, if needed, you can move your photo session to mid-late morning or even early afternoon.
You’re not in a big race against the clock (there’s still a race, just not a big one).

If it’s raining, lightning, thundering, etc. you’re session will be postponed to another day. However, if it’s just cloudy, looks like it could rain but not actually raining, your session will still continue. If it’s snowing, but not too hard, the choice will be up to you on whether or not you want to reschedule your session.

Moral of the story, if it’s cloudy on the day of your photo session, don’t worry… it’s perfect weather for your session! Take a look at these photos that were capture at the Blue Springs Heritage Center in Eureka Springs Arkansas on a cloudy overcast day in the early afternoon. Stunning!

The Best Time To Schedule Your Session

A lot of thought and preparation goes into a photo session; what to wear, what to bring, where to go, and most importantly… what time. The time of day you do your photo session is crucial! When of the biggest battles photographers have is the sun. We essentially play by the suns rules. The timing of where the sun is at in the sky determines how harsh or soft the lighting and shadows will be. Lighting and shadows play a big role in how your photos will turn out. Here are some things to consider which each time of day.

Early Morning: Could work if absolutely needed, but not recommended

You have to get up earlier, which could leave little time to prepare if you sleep in, or if you have littles to get ready.
The sun will rise fast, the higher it gets, the harsher it gets.
Could be rather cold
However, if needed, it’s a doable time to get your photoshoot in on a cooler morning if it’s summer time, or out of the way if you have a busy weekend/month ahead.

Afternoon: Absolutely not. This is the worst time of day to do a photo session. Why?

Very harsh lighting
Horrible Shadows
Depending on the time of year it’s very hot
Horrible lighting (I know I said it twice, that’s how bad it is!)

Evening: The best time, more specifically one hour before sunset. Why?

Warm/soft lighting
No harsh shadows
Depending on time of year, it’s cooled off a bit
Golden Hour

You might be asking “What is the ‘Golden Hour’? The Golden Hour is the best time of day to do your photo session. This is one hour before sunset. So if the sun sets at 5pm, the best time to do a photo session is 3:30pm or 4:00pm. This is when the sun is lower in the sky which creates flattering lighting situations. The light is warmer and softer, which not as harsh shadows as during the day.

My recommendation: in the evening, one hour before sunset. This is the best lighting and will have the best outcome for you photos. Take a look at some of the photos below that were captured during the ‘Golden Hour’.
